Living In The Grey

Filed under: Culture And Society,Religion And Theology — Vasilios Theodorakis @ 10:35 am

Those living with a log in their eye should not be preaching to those living with a splinter in theirs. Reference – Matthew 7:3

We are unfortunately surrounded by institutions and personalities who claim a holier than thou stance, yet in reality do despicable things to other beings or have despicable personal lives. There are of course the very good (the saints) and the very bad (the demons) – both of which walk amongst us – but most humans fall somewhere in between. I’m definitely one of these middle dwellers.

Being neither a particularly good nor a particularly bad person, my life continues to be lived in the grey, no matter how hard I try to improve myself. I therefore think the best any of us can hope for is to be honest about who and what we are on a day to day basis. To pretend otherwise wastes everyone’s time and doesn’t allow for genuine improvement.

Keeping in mind this general shortcoming, I strongly believe having a single human role model is not only a nonsense but down right dangerous. No human being is that Godly and should not be placed on too high a pedestal. The God-Man i.e. Christ, is of course the exception to the rule.

In spite of this, at least one thing can always be learned from every individual. To not look for that lesson in each day’s interpersonal encounters is a temporal tragedy.

Granted that the image of God is in each person but it is an indication of the strength of the free will of divine-human co-operation (or lack there of) that one can sully that image to an absolutely insignificant memory… Maybe some can remember that there once was a house of the Father… I think it gets to a stage where it is not chronologically too late but etymologically too late… Change is not wanted and is perhaps not even possible to desire the house of the Father… It is easier to stay with the pigs, to harass others, to eat their food, to throw pig-poo over the fence, to torment other humans in order to make our own pain somehow worth something, to go to plays about dealing with life in the pig-pen, to stay warm in the filth, to follow pig-pen sports, pig-pen politics, dealing with life in the pig-pen, how to get ahead in the pig pen, how to get a BMW in the pig pen…

May we come to our senses and remember the house of the Father.. May we remember that even his servants have enough to eat and yet we, His sons, His beloved sons for whom He tolerated the life giving mortification, we choose to starve ourselves to death because of our unwillingness to go back to where we are welcomed, wanted and loved in a way that we could never understand… THE MADNESS OF IT!!! You are naked, he has clothes for you.You are hurting, he has joy for your. You are empty, even though he is God himself he emptied himself (gr Kenosis – nice word) so that you can be full with divinity beyond measure… But the answer is no. No, No, No, No, No, No… and WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY???

May we remember that our pain is blessed and leads to someone bigger. Everyone who suffers innocently is greatly beloved of Christ. Every ounce of innocent suffering somehow completes the work of Christ and somehow speeds the coming of the Kingdom. Some people’s ministry is to suffer… In those that bear the marks of Christ it is the foretaste of sanctification, in those that crucify and ignore Christ and his saints it is a foretaste of the separation to come.

May God have mercy on our souls and may He, Himself cause His face to shine upon us and may He make us to return! Amen!!!

Lord have Mercy! Lord Have Mercy! Lord Have Mercy!

    Maranatha… Lord Come!!!
